HILLSIDE LAWN TENNIS CLUB - Autumn Update

Now that the clocks have changed its time for a review of the year so far.

The League season ended with mixed results:-

1st team - relegated to Division 2
2nd team - relegated to Division 4
3rd team - 3rd in Division 6 ( narrowly missing promotion )
4th team - 6th in Division 8 ( avoiding relegation )

Thanks to all team players and captains, and to Karen Taylor and Piotr Bienkowski, this year's Club Captains. We hope you all enjoyed your tennis.

Finals Day:- This took place on 8th September, and after a rainy start to the day, the sun came out and we all enjoyed a day of fine tennis. Thanks to our President Anne Howard for presenting the cups, and to all who helped make the day so successful, especially Ray Flanagan for keeping the tournaments running amicably, and for organising the finals, and to all the players who provided the entertainment.

And the results were……….
Ladies Singles - Karen Taylor beat Vicky McCaffrey
Mens Singles - Chris Williams beat David Cooper
Boys Under 16 - Adam Howard beat John Myers
Ladies Doubles - Karen Taylor and Laura Sumner beat Vicky McCaffrey and Sylvia Taylor
Mens Doubles - Barry Sumner and John Buchanan beat Chris Williams and Paul Flanagan
Mixed Doubles - Karen Taylor and Stuart Chorlton beat Joan Upton and Chris Snelson

In complete contrast the Marcus Trophy finals were played on Monday 3rd November, a cold, windy and not quite wet day. Lisa Flanagan and Stephen Bridge beat Angela Baron and Paul Flanagan.

The last of this year's tournaments is the Betty Silvester Flood light Cup. Entry list is in the clubhouse and it takes place on Monday the 17th , Friday the 21st and Friday, 28th November.

The Presentation Evening on Saturday, 15th November is at the West Lancs Yacht Club at 7.30 p.m. £8 per head with food and a disco. This is a really good evening, so if you don't have a ticket, don't worry, just contact Christine Wilde 578403, or Joan Upton 569254, and you can be there !

Finally, the change in season doesn't mean that tennis has to stop. Club afternoons continue on Sunday afternoons from 2p.m., Adam Flint is starting coaching a squad of juniors soon, and if you know anyone who might like to play winter tennis Winter Membership is only £30, and lasts until end of March next year.
