(Thanks to Joan Upton for producing
this Newsletter)
This newsletter gives a brief round-up of this season’s news,
and also alerts you to what is still going on. Please don’t put
your tennis racquets away just because the weather is changing.
Many of us continue playing throughout the winter, and Sunday afternoons
from about 3pm in particular are very popular. If you joined this year,
please feel free to come down, the standards of tennis are very mixed,
and we’d be delighted to see some new faces. There is also no
reason why people shouldn’t arrange games themselves. Floodlights
are available until 10pm.
Mike Taylor’s Junior Coaching Squads also continue. Ring Mike
on 07885 297614 for details.
If you want competitive tennis the entry sheet for the Marcus Tournament
is on the notice board and the Betty Sylvester Floodlit Trophy starts
in early November.
After the break-in earlier this year we’re using shutter bolts
on the kitchen door. Keys are available from Christine Wilde (578403)
or Joan Upton (569254). The padlock key for the gate and the door key
are unchanged.
PRESENTATION BUFFET AND DISCO.
Saturday, 20th November, 8pm till 12mn. £8.00 per head.
Once again this will be held at the West Lancs Yacht Club. Please book
this date in your diary, and return the enclosed slip to Christine or
any committee member.
This is a very sociable evening, so bring your friends and help us to
celebrate this year’s successes, while enjoying good food and
good company in pleasant surroundings.
After last week’s glorious weather, Finals Day on the 11th September
was a bit wet, but most events were played.

Ladies Doubles; Karen and Sylvia Taylor beat Lisa Cookson
and Joan Upton
Mens Doubles; John Revill and Chris Snelson beat Mike
Atkinson and John Williams.
Under 13 Boys; Tom Flanagan beat Tom Hill.
Under 16 Boys; Tom Flanagan beat David Upton.
Mens Singles; This was postponed owing to injury and
illness, but Chris Williams is due to play Robbie Trecarichi
Mixed Doubles; Stuart Chorlton and Karen Taylor versus
Chris Snelson and Joan Upton. The rain eventually halted this, so it
will be resumed at a later date.
Thanks to Ray Flanagan, tournament referee for the smooth running of
the tournaments.
Final League placings;
Unfortunately this was not our best league season – mainly because
of injuries affecting all the teams.
1st team relegated to Division 3
2nd Team relegated to Division 5
3rd team remains in Division 6
4th Team relegated to Division 9
Very many thanks from the captains to all who played this year.
With luck, an injury free season and the enthusiasm shown by the healthy
this year, most of these teams should go straight back up. Men in particular,
please look after yourselves for next season!!
